The first two days of OutDoor Demo East, Thursday Oct.8 and Friday Oct. 9 will be trade-only days.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Interbike Opens a Portion of OutDoor Demo East to Consumers

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. — April 6, 2009 – Interbike OutDoor Demo East, traditionally a trade-only event, will now be open to the public on Saturday Oct. 10 and Sunday Oct. 11, 2009 at Roger Williams Park in Providence, R.I. The first two days of OutDoor Demo East, Thursday Oct. 8 and Friday Oct. 9, will be open to members of the cycling industry only.

“Last year’s inaugural OutDoor Demo East gathered dealers and manufacturers for product demos, business deals and networking. However, we recognize these groups are just two of the three pieces of the entire cycling community mix,” said Andy Tompkins, Interbike show director. “Opening the last two days of OutDoor Demo East for consumer participation is a great way to incorporate that final piece.”

In addition to two new consumer days for product demos, OutDoor Demo East is contracted with GSD Event Productions LLC, a New England-based promotional firm, to produce the Providence Cyclo-Cross Festival, a USA Cycling-sanctioned professional and amateur cyclo-cross race event.

“Years ago we recognized Roger Williams Park to be, perhaps, the finest cyclo-cross venue in America. Securing this date, this venue, the support of this fabulous city and this partnership with Interbike, gives us a unique opportunity to create a really spectacular event,” said Richard Fries, marketing-communications director for GSD Event Productions. “Get your cowbells ready; this will be fantastic.”

The OutDoor Demo East event is still intended to be an important trade event focused on the needs of Northeast and Mid-Atlantic retailers and/or additional staff unable to attend the Interbike International Expo, held in Las Vegas. To that end, the National Bicycle Dealer Association (NBDA) will again bring its popular retail education Super Seminars to the event.

“A wide variety of seminars are being planned, with topics including sales, marketing, management strategies and industry trends,” said Fred Clements, NBDA Executive Director. “Each year the NBDA strives to bring compelling content focused on retailer-specific needs aimed at improving the bottom-line of all bicycle retailers. We look forward to doing so again for East Coast dealers attending OutDoor Demo East.”

OutDoor Demo East 2009 will run Thursday, October 8 to Sunday, October 11, 2009, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Roger Williams Park in Providence, R.I.

Interbike OutDoor Demo East is based on the Interbike OutDoor Demo held in conjunction with the Interbike International Bicycle Expo in Las Vegas and will include product testing, NBDA seminars, manufacturer technical clinics and networking events.

For questions about exhibiting at OutDoor Demo East, please e-mail Interbike sales manager, Andria Klinger at andria.klinger@nielsen.com.

Ritchey-Sponsored Alessandro Ballan and Damiano Cunego Dominate World Road Championship with First and Second Place Finishes

Recent gold medalist, Nicole Cooke, also snags first place finish while riding Ritchey components

SAN CARLOS, Calif. – Oct. 7, 2008 - Ritchey Design components shined during the World Road Championships held in Varese, Italy (September 22-28, 2008) when Ritchey-sponsored riders Alessandro Ballan and Damiano Cunego, both of Italy, took first and second place in the elite men’s category.

Nicole Cooke of Great Britain, also a Ritchey-sponsored rider, took first place in the women’s elite category.

Under nearly ideal racing weather conditions, each of the professional riders rode using the company’s World Championship Series (WCS) 4Axis O/S stems. Ballan and Cunego were separated by three seconds (6:37:30 and 6:37:33), using Ritchey’s alloy WCS Logic and WCS Classic road handlebars, respectively, while Cooke raced for a 3:42:11 finish using the Ritchey Carbon Superlogic Evolution handlebar.

“The World Road Championship course is challenging, with climbs as steep as 11 percent in some places. You can bet the majority of the forces on those bikes were centralized in the cockpit – testing the strength and durability of our products,” said Steve Parke, general manager and vice president of marketing for Ritchey. “We couldn’t be more proud of our riders and the trust they put in Ritchey products. When it counts the most, the quality of our product speaks for itself.”

In addition to last week’s wins at the World Championships, Ritchey components were also a part of 25-year old Cooke’s Olympic gold medal finish, won just six weeks ago in Beijing.

Ritchey-sponsored athletes benefit from the Ritchey Fit Logic philosophy and its wide range of “cockpit” components (handlebars, stems and seatposts) that help riders custom fit their bikes for a more efficient and comfortable ride.

The official Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) press release about the men’s World Championship including details about the race and the riders is available here, while the official UCI release about the women’s World Championships can be read here.

Lance Armstrong to Announce Global Cancer Initiative and Plans for
2009 Cycling Season at Interbike Trade Show

WHAT:
Lance Armstrong, seven-time Tour de France champion, will hold a press conference at Interbike, North America’s largest cycling trade show.

WHEN:
Thursday, September 25 at 9:00 a.m. in conjunction with the Interbike International Bicycle Expo

(Press conference is for working media only. If you do not have an Interbike working media badge please go to www.xpressreg.net/register/bike098/media/reginfo.asp to register, and pick up your badge in the Press Room – Sands room 202).

WHERE:
Venetian Ballroom J near the upper lobby of the Sands Expo and Convention Center (201 Sands Avenue, Las Vegas),

WHO/WHY:
During his upcoming Wednesday, September 24th press conference in New York City at the Clinton Global Initiative, Armstrong will discuss his Global Cancer Initiative. The following day at the Interbike press conference, Armstrong will detail plans for his 2009 return to professional cycling, including team, partial schedule and development program.

In a statement released earlier this month by Lance announcing his plans to return to the road, he said, “I am happy to announce that after talking with my children, my family and my closest friends, I have decided to return to professional cycling in order to raise awareness of the global cancer burden. This year alone, nearly eight million people will die of cancer worldwide. Millions more will suffer in isolation, victims not only of the disease but of social stigma. After the passage of Proposition 15 in Texas, a $3 billion investment in the fight against cancer which is helping to make this disease part of the national dialogue in America, it’s now time to address cancer on a global level.”

For more information, please visit www.livestrong.com/lance2009.

About the Lance Armstrong Foundation
Founded in 1997 by cancer survivor and champion cyclist Lance Armstrong, the Lance
Armstrong Foundation (LAF) has raised more than $250 million for the fight against cancer. LAF unites people through programs and experiences to empower cancer survivors to live life on their own terms and to raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer. The LAF focuses on cancer prevention, access to screening and care, research and quality of life for cancer survivors. The LAF helps survivors face the challenges and changes that come with cancer. The Foundation helps them understand what to expect from the cancer experience and the right questions to ask and provides support along the way.

next generation Arantix has tighter tolerances and is stronger than ever before; company also drops the suggested retail prices for an Arantix frame to $4,895 and for a fully built Arantix mountain bike to $8,495

PAYSON, Utah and LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Sept. 18, 2008 - Delta 7 Sports will showcase its next generation and now competitively priced ArantixTM mountain bike at the Interbike International Bicycle Expo and the attendant OutDoor Demo, being held next week in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The first bicycle to feature the patented IsoTruss® carbon fiber and Kevlar spider web-like open lattice tube design now has a stronger frame and tighter tolerances than ever before. Furthermore, by improving its manufacturing processes and bringing all manufacturing in-house, Delta 7 Sports has reduced the suggested retail price of the Arantix frame to $4,895 (previously $6,995), while also reducing the price of a fully built Arantix bike to $8,495 (previously $11,995).

The next generation Arantix frame and mountain bike are available for order now in small, medium and large frame sizes. Delta 7 Sports is also aggressively pursuing independent bike dealers and sales representatives in North America, as well as sales representatives and bike distributors outside of the United States.

Delta 7 Sports will have several Arantix mountain bikes available for test rides at Interbike’s OutDoor Demo in Bootleg Canyon, Nevada on Monday, Sept. 22 and Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008. Journalists, reviewers and bloggers interested in reserving a time for an Arantix test ride should contact Elizabeth Hurst of SOAR Communications at ehurst@soarcomm.com to make a reservation.

The company will also unveil its first ever road bike at Interbike at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas from Wednesday, Sept. 24 through Friday, Sept. 26. More information about this forthcoming IsoTruss-based road bike will be released next Wednesday.

IsoTruss: The foundation of the Arantix mountain bike

One example of how the next generation Arantix mountain bike has been made stronger is through the use of new IsoTruss mandrels. A mandrel is a specially tooled metal rod used to create the carbon fiber/Kevlar bike frame tubes, and Delta 7 Sports has recently redesigned its mandrels to use fewer pieces, each of which are interconnected. In addition, Delta 7 Sports now mechanically wraps the carbon fiber around the mandrels instead of doing so by hand, a process that creates higher tension when wrapping.

“The combination of these factors creates straighter and more uniform fiber alignment for each frame tube,” said Tyler Evans, general manager of Delta 7 Sports. “And the more uniform and straight the fibers are, the better they transfer load from one IsoTruss pyramid to another within the structure. The result is a more precise and stronger IsoTruss-based frame.”

Advanced Composite Solutions (parent company of Delta 7 Sports), has been granted an exclusive, worldwide license by Brigham Young University to develop, produce and market products utilizing the IsoTruss technology and design. The Arantix is the first ACS product to utilize IsoTruss technology.

With the IsoTruss technology and design, Delta 7 Sports has created one of the strongest and lightest hard-tail mountain bikes in the world – a frame that weighs approximately 2.6 pounds and sports the unique and extremely strong, yet see-through, IsoTruss design.

“This is a very exciting time for Delta 7 Sports as we have been very busy getting ready for Interbike 2008,” said Kris Papworth, president of Delta 7 Sports. “We knew the IsoTruss-based Arantix was a great bike as shown by a recent review in one of the leading mountain bike magazines of the world. But the new Arantix is even better, and with our improvements in manufacturing, we’ve been able to drive down the retail price for the Arantix frame by more than $2,000 and a fully built bike by $3,500.”

According to a review published in the October 2008 issue of Mountain Bike Action, the Arantix

“may be the most responsive hardtail we’ve ever dropped the hammer on”

“offers enough lateral stiffness to keep a track sprinter happy”

“feels more lively than a conventional carbon fiber hardtail”

“corners with authority, and nothing is lost in the translation of any steering input”

Mountain Bike Action wrapped up the Arantix review by stating, “Delta 7 Sports has proved the point that their IsoTruss works well for mountain bike frame construction.”

“The only negative thing Mountain Bike Action said in its review of the Arantix was about the price, and we’ve addressed that head on by bringing our manufacturing in-house and controlling our supply chain,” Papworth said.

Arantix Mountain Bike Information and Specifications

With its new manufacturing processes in place, Delta 7 Sports mechanically weaves single carbon fiber strands around metal mandrel rods to create the open lattice IsoTruss structure of each Arantix frame tube. Each bundle of carbon fiber strands are then hand-wrapped with Kevlar and then baked at 255 degrees Fahrenheit for four hours. The ends of the baked tubes are then machined before being joined with molded carbon fiber lugs to make a complete frame.

“In total, each completed Arantix frame is built with more than 1,500 linear feet of carbon fiber,” Evans said. “That’s longer than the longest supertanker roaming today’s oceans. After curing, the carbon/Kevlar IsoTruss-based construction of the Arantix makes for an almost unbeatable combination, creating a frame that is dramatically stronger than comparably weighted frames, while also being dramatically lighter than frames with the same strength.”

A completely built-out, next generation Arantix mountain bike includes

An Arantix IsoTruss-based carbon/Kevlar composite frame,

Fox F100 RLC front suspension,

SRAM X.0 Shift levers, derailleurs, chain, and cassette,

Avid Juicy Ultimate hydraulic disc brakes,

FSA XC-300 Wheels with Kenda Karma DTC tires,

Crank Brothers Four Ti Egg Beaters pedals,

FSA K-Force XC carbon fiber handlebar, with two LizardSkins Lock-On grips,

L.H. Thomson Masterpiece handlebar stem and seatpost,

Chris King NoThreadSet headset,

Selle Italiá SLR Gel Flow saddle, and

LizardSkins Arantix custom chainstay protector.

Dealers who want to custom-build bikes can also order an Arantix mountain bike frame today from Delta 7 Sports for $4,895 (US). Delta 7 Sports is also taking dealer orders for its re-vamped Arantix Mountain Bike, at prices starting at $8,495 (US).

IsoTruss Technology and Design Overview

IsoTruss was developed at BYU under the direction of Civil Engineering Professor David W. Jensen (Director of the Center for Advanced Structural Composites).

IsoTruss open lattice structures are made up of three-dimensional (3-D) pyramid-shaped trusses formed by combining two-dimensional (2-D) trusses, such as the kind commonly used in architectural design. The pyramid-like structure of an IsoTruss lattice utilizes the geometry of a triangle with two equal sides (an Isosceles Triangle) to create a shape with a superior strength-to-weight ratio. Hence, the name IsoTruss comes from the “iso” in isosceles, while “truss” comes from the architectural design known as trusses.

The fusion of 2-D trusses into the 3-D pyramid-shaped forms found within an IsoTruss structure enables Delta 7 Sports to build bicycle frames that bend less, twist less (torsion) and flex less (axial stiffness) than metal bike frames of comparable weight.
